yes, a good end to the infamous spirit of 2020

with 2020 having been a difficult, dark year, our collaboration with the renowned artist aditya shirke to culminate the year with a surreal celebration at our makerspace the karkhana was one of the first events hosted by us in 2021. this experiment was the first one for us as well as the artist. taking the unconventional path has always defined studiomars and this one was definitely a game changer for us to end 2020 and start 2021 with a “creative outburst.”

remembering the past year, the “dark horse” reminds us of how we should take our learnings from the past year and move forward with hope and a zest to create newer things and make most of our life. the unlooked-for pandemic held different meaning for each one of us; while some of us couldn’t wait to explore the outdoors, there were some who appreciated the pause that it compelled us to take. unleashing the dark horse only to realize that the dark times took us closer to realizing that we can definitely get past this year.

being a first-timer at this particular experiential show, the artist begun with a new mindset and painted these victorious, majestic horses in just two days; and it was exhilarating in a way that the artist was able to pursue a newer dimension of his art using quotidian household mops & brooms only to feel liberated and cathartic; also calling it a “visceral interpretation of the pandemic.”

with a phenomenal response that we received from our invitees from all over the city of pune, we even extended the dates of the exhibit to make sure it was open for more people to experience this vigorously imaginative genesis of innovation and art. the horses are truly an ode to all artists who want to indulge in divergent thinking when it comes to their work of art. we, at studio mars, truly believe that we need to have more of such experimental spaces to make a pathway for artists to thrive in a true sense. going ahead, we will of course be very enthusiastic to collaborate with artists with an unprecedented vision to create, perform and innovate at our one-of-a-kind creative studio, co-working incubation zone and workshop, the karkhana.
